Workforce Development

Efforts through AGC — and with AGC Chapters and industry partners — are focused on attracting, retaining and training the future construction industry workforce.

Industry recruitment and retention are essential to the future of the construction industry.

AGC considers “workforce development” a broad umbrella that encompasses both those activities that encourage students in elementary, middle or high school to consider the potential of a career in construction and those that help prepare young people for their first jobs in the industry, either through craft training or a two- or four-year degree.

Alabama AGC’s Craft Training Act

The Alabama Construction Industry Craft Training Board (CICT) provides grant opportunities for craft training programs within the commercial construction industry. Our mission is to support training programs in building a qualified workforce to meet Alabama’s growing demand for skilled craftsmen and commercial construction workers.

Go Build Alabama

Created by the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute, the Go Build campaign is designed to educate young people on the value of learning a trade, dispel their misconceptions about the construction industry and inspire them to consider building a career as a skilled construction tradesman.

Alabama Talent Triad

The Alabama Talent Triad, commissioned by the Governor’s Office, is a free workforce development tool designed to connect employers with qualified candidates based on verified skill sets. Employers can post job openings, and the system matches them with candidates who have the necessary skills, credentials, and experience. The platform also provides FAQs, feature overviews, and videos for additional guidance. This is a valuable, cost-free resource to help address workforce challenges — HR teams are encouraged to explore and share feedback on their experience.
