Here are a couple of things for our highway contractor members as we head into the new year:

1.Sales Tax Exemption portal – As you know, the sales tax exemption began with projects let this month that will start in 2022.  The Alabama Department of Revenue has developed a portal for exemption submittals and are prepared to train someone in your office over the telephone.  PLEASE LET THEM KNOW THE NAME(s) AND CONTACT NUMBER FOR THE INDIVIDUAL IN YOUR OFFICE IN NEED OF TRAINING.  THE DEPARTMENT WILL CONTACT THEM.

2.FHWA Launches “One-Stop Shop” Website for $1 Trillion Infrastructure Law.  A new website is serving as a “one-stop shop” for state and local governments, as well as contractors, transportation agencies and others, that want to learn how the new $1 trillion infrastructure law can benefit them.

Notice of Design Build Industry Forum– Following notice of the Department’s intent to obtain Proposals from firms interested in providing Design- Build Services for the West Alabama Highway Project (WAH), the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will host an optional Industry Forum on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center (MPAC), located at 201 Tallapoosa Street, Montgomery.

4.Coronavirus quarantine time cut in half – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shortened the quarantine time for people who have tested positive for the coronavirus again. The quarantine time has now gone from 10 down to five days.

5. Mobile River Bridge – Mobile and Baldwin County officials on Dec. 15 voted to revive the original concept for the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project, but with a cheaper toll and a toll-free route through the Wallace Tunnel.
