Southern AASHTO Region Friends:
This year’s Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) Regional Meeting is just around the corner! If you plan to attend or are interested in learning more about this opportunity to represent AGC at this important meeting of southern state departments of transportation, please read on.
When and Where:
August 5-9, 2023, Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center, Mobile, Alabama
Description:
As part of the AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA Joint Committee, each summer, AGC and ARTBA participate in the 4 AASHTO region’s annual conferences, which gives contractors in each region the opportunity to have topical discussion on important matters facing the highway construction industry along with state DOT heads, their chief engineers and other staff, and FHWA divisional staff in each region. At each conference, AGC members will participate in two sessions 1) an AGC Caucus meeting the day before the opening session to prepare 2) a policy breakfast with ARTBA and AASHTO delegates to discuss the agreed upon topics and set top-line policy goals for the year. At the policy breakfast, participants provide meaningful input on the year’s topics that translate into joint policy papers at a joint meeting of the three organizations in the Fall. The Joint Committee is meeting in Park City, Utah this August and this meeting is invitation only.
Participation in these conferences/policy breakfasts are a fantastic opportunity to not only contribute to relevant industry discussions, but to network with other contractors, key leaders at state DOTs, and FHWA staff in the states you do business in. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend and encourage you to reach out to me or your chapter executive for further information.
This year’s discussion paper topics include:
- AGC: Opportunities and Challenges with Emerging Vehicle Technologies
- AASHTO: Securing Robust and Sustainable Long-term Funding for the Federal Transportation Program
- ARTBA: Implementing the Build America, Buy America Act
- Joint Topic: Bridging the Future: Next Generation Partnering
